Fungicide use

Always consult your agronomist and adapt programmes to local conditions.

  • T0 - Only needed in extremely high risk disease pressure situations.
  • T1 - The use of Bontima at T1 will provide clean, stress-free lower green leaves to build yield potential
  • T2 - Bontima at T2 gives outstanding protection against disease and leaf spotting for green leaf retention, securing yield potential and increasing quality by driving grain size and grain fill

Core programme

  • T0 - Morpholine (only needed in high risk disease pressure situations)
  • T1 - Bontima 1.6 lt/ha
  • T2 - Bontima 1.6 lt/ha

Agronomic information

Suzuka has an excellent agronomic profile with tall, stiff straw and early maturity.

Growth habit

  • Over winter: Semi-prostrate
  • Spring vigour: Medium
  • Tillering ability: Medium
  • Maturity: Early

Drilling dates

  • Suitability for early drilling: Good
  • Optimum drilling date: Late September

Recommended sowing rate

Seed rates are dependent on soil conditions at the time of drilling: the more difficult the environment, the higher the seed rate must be to compensate for potential plant loss. The table below shows the number of seeds per square metre that should be planted in good conditions.

Sequel sowing rate

This table should always be used in conjunction with thousand-grain weight of the seed to calculate the seed rate.

Nitrogen application

Suzuka has good lodging resistance, so will benefit from high amounts of nitrogen, however a managed approach according to site fertility needs to be taken into account.

In a second cereal situation, Syngenta Seeds recommends 170 kg/ha N with a split dressing of 50% mid- March, and 50% during mid-April. These figures are for guidance purposes only. You must work with your agronomist when calculating nitrogen rates and timings, taking into consideration end market requirements and the fertility of the field. You should also work within any Defra guidelines / restrictions.

PGRs

Suzuka has very good lodging resistance, but PGRs can be used to promote root development and even the crop.

Syngenta Seeds recommends the use of Moddus plus a chlormequat-based product at GS31.

A second PGR is unlikely to be needed.

Advised rates:

  • GS30-31 – Moddus 0.2 lt/ha + chlormequat 1.25 lt/ha at onset of stem extension
  • GS37 – If required, should be ethephon based
